How Red Thread works
How does the judge mechanic actually work?
The system surfaces candidate pairs to other users in the community. Those users (the "judges") read both profiles and vote yes or no on whether the pairing makes sense. When enough yes votes accumulate, the pair gets surfaced to the two daters. If both daters accept, a chat opens. Read the full breakdown at /how-it-works.
Can I be both a judge and a dater?
Yes. Every active user is both. You're a dater in the sense that the community is voting on your pairs; you're a judge in the sense that you also vote on theirs.
Why can other users see my photos?
Because Red Thread's whole mechanic depends on the community being able to read your profile to decide who you'd fit with. Other users see your photos, your match bio, and your judge bio when you appear in a candidate pair. We call this out plainly on How It Works and in section 3 of the privacy policy. If that's a deal-breaker for you, Red Thread isn't the right fit.
What's the difference between the match bio and the judge bio?
The match bio is for daters reading your profile after you've matched. The judge bio is a private note to the judges deciding your pairs; it's where you tell the community what kind of person you actually want. Daters don't see the judge bio.
What stats can I see?
In Profile → Activity Stats: pairs you've voted yes on, your judging accuracy (how often your yes votes turn into matches that stick), your match rate, total matches, and how many times you've appeared in a candidate pair.
Privacy & data
How do I delete my account?
Inside the app: Settings → Delete account, type
DELETE to confirm. It runs immediately.
If you can't sign in, use the
web deletion form; we'll
verify identity and run the deletion within 14 days.
What happens to my messages when I delete?
Your profile, photos, and votes are removed from production within 30 days. Messages you sent stay in the other person's inbox attributed to "Deleted User," because those messages belong to their account as well.
Can I pause matching without deleting?
Yes. Edit Profile → "Open to matches" off. You stay a judge (you can still vote on other pairs), but you stop appearing in new candidate pairs as a dater.
Do you sell my data?
No. We don't sell or share Personal Information for cross-context behavioral advertising. See CCPA section 10.
How do I exercise my GDPR / CCPA rights?
Email legal@redthread.social from the address on your Red Thread account. We respond within one month (GDPR) or 45 days (CCPA).
Eligibility
I'm under 18. Can I use Red Thread?
No. Red Thread is for adults only. The minimum age is 18. We collect your date of birth at signup and reject accounts indicating an age under 18. If you encounter a user you believe to be under 18, report them with the "Underage user" reason; we treat those reports as urgent.
I set my DOB wrong. How do I fix it?
Date of birth is locked after signup for safety reasons. Email support@redthread.social and we'll correct it after verifying identity.
Can I have more than one account?
No. Multiple accounts are a Terms violation. If we detect duplicates we may suspend all but one. If your account was banned, you may not create a new account to evade that.
Safety & moderation
How does photo moderation work?
Every photo you upload is scanned by Google Cloud Vision SafeSearch before it goes live. Photos flagged as adult, violent, or otherwise unsafe are blocked automatically. Borderline cases are reviewed by a human. We don't use your photos to train models.
How do I block someone?
Tap the three dots on a pair card, in a chat header, or on an expanded profile. Block. They stop seeing you, you stop seeing them, mutual pair cards disappear, and existing conversations close. They're not told you blocked them.
What happens after I report someone?
Your report enters a moderation queue. We review the profile, the context (if any), and any prior reports. We take action ranging from a warning to a permanent ban. For child-safety or violent-threat reports, we escalate to law enforcement. The reported user is never told who reported them.
I'm being harassed off-platform by someone I met here. What do I do?
Report them inside Red Thread so we have a record. If the harassment crosses a criminal line, contact local law enforcement. We cooperate with valid law enforcement requests under our privacy policy. For urgent safety issues, email safety@redthread.social.
Platforms & availability
Where can I download Red Thread?
We're in closed beta on Android first. If you want a heads up when we open up, send a message via the contact form on the home page.
Is there an iOS app?
Not yet. iOS comes after the Android beta proves out the mechanic. No firm date.
Is there a web app?
Not yet. Red Thread is mobile-first by design, the judge feed, photo uploads, and chat work best on a phone.
Does Red Thread cost anything?
The Service is currently free. If we introduce paid features in the future they'll be optional and presented clearly before purchase.
